Global women’s rights organisation Equality Now. received the International Gender Equality Prize 2019 from Finland. Minister for Nordic Cooperation and Equality Thomas Blomqvist announced the recipient of the prize in Tampere on 2 December 2019.
"In choosing us the Finnish government has recognized the important role of equal laws and rule of law in furthering equality for women. We are honoured and grateful to be the second recipient of this incredible prize" said the Global Executive Director Yasmeen Hassan from Equality Now.

Anyone was welcome to nominate a candidate for the prize between 25 October and 31 December 2018. All the nominations were submitted to a prize jury consisting of international experts. The Government will make the final decision on the recipient of the prize.
